“I can see no higher purpose then to live as though the future mattered. To do otherwise, to me, is to live a life that is just deferred violence upon other humans and every other species on the planet. It's that simple.”

This resonates with me. I have tried to live like an ancestor, when my entire society expects me to borrow from my family’s future to subsidise today.

The expected question is “What can I take from tomorrow to make today better?”

Instead, I ask, “What can I offer today to make tomorrow better?”

In my culture, to live like an ancestor is seen as a naive and impossible luxury. In this way, living like there’s no tomorrow becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.
